Charta Bellica by Márton Somogyi
Charta Bellica can be translated from Latin as “War playing cards”. This pack of 56 cards, designed by József Csanádi, has been illustrated by Márton Somogyi. The cards are larger than usual and range from 1 to 10, followed by Priest, Queen, Monarch and Capital. The archetypes of all figures are the 48 cards of the 15th century court playing cards called Hofämterspiel. The characters have been modernised and placed in the 16th century using contemporary paintings and etchings. A regular size version with English indices has been published by Piatnik in 2009.
