The Ghetto Tarot by Alice Smeets
The Ghetto tarot is an impressive photographic interpretation of the traditional Rider-Waite Tarot by Alice Smeets, a Belgian award-winning documentary photographer who lived in Haiti for two years. The scenes have been carefully replicated by a group of Haitian artists called Atis Rezistans (resistant artists, see www.atis-rezistans.com) in the Haitian slums using only material they were able to find or create locally. On several cards they used symbols from the Voodoo religion. This pack is called the Ghetto tarot because it enhances on a poor community with a homogeneous ethnicity. The first edition of 400 packs will be printed for December 2015 after a successful crowd-funding campaign in www.indiegogo.com. A second campaign is now running to accept more subscribers and to start a new project with videos about the Haitian Ghetto.
