Baralla Catalana by Berta Bachs
The four suits are Sardinistas (Sardana dancers), Castellers (building human towers), Diables (imps with firecracker sticks) and Bastoners (wands used in traditional dance). They are all typical manifestations of Catalan popular culture. Berta Bachs from Sabadell designed the 48 cards with very simple illustrations and did not follow any Spanish or Catalan patterns. The Sota (Jack) is just a plain 10. I have been disappointed that the Castellers do not build their human tower but dance in circle like in the other suits. The Caballo (11) and the Rey (12) are represented by traditional clothes and musical instruments respectively. There are no suit signs and the only clue for players is the colour of the illustration.
