Oriental tarot by Rinascimento
|
The oriental tarot was originally designed by Claudio Foudraz in Turin in 1845. The standard ‘Marseille’ pattern has been preserved but all characters are Chinese people. This is a very rare pack and only few of them if any had survived. The uncut sheets had been discovered recently by IPCS members (Giuliano Crippa and Nicola De Giorgio) in the Academy of Sciences at Turin. To bring this original tarot to the public, the cards have been edited and the master pack had been carefully painted with watercolour. This technique makes the result consistent with cards from the mid-19th century. This is a limited edition of 700 copies numbered and hand signed. A 18-page booklet by Giordano Berti and Philippe Noyes is sold this the pack, explaining the historical context, the fashion for “Chinoiserie” and the reproduction process. The box has been designed by Letizia Rivetti.
